Many of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world have gone from rags to riches in only a few years period, sometimes less. Look at Richard Branson, Donald Trump and Josh Bezoni of the SlimBodyCoach.com instead what all successful entrepreneurs have in comes seem to be: an incredible drive to succeed, a crazy passion for what they are doing and a ridiculous amount of stubborn ‘I’m going make it’ thinking.
So are you cut from the entrepreneurial cloth?
Can you go from broke to rich… or even to just successful? Of course you can, if you have what I call the entrepreneur’s DNA but even if you aren’t born with it you can definitely learn it. Here are some tips to get to the point where you are pulling in an easy $10k a month and more.
Josh Bezoni was deep in debt when he started SimBodyCoach.com, he had quit a job to go the entrepreneur’s route and failed miserably. Saddled with credit card debt up to his ears and a start up business that he wasn’t passionate about he figured he couldn’t get much lower… then it hit him, try a business he was passionate about. So Josh launched SlimBodyCoach.com and within 3 months of starting up says an article by TheStreet.com he had brought in a whopping $3,000,000 in sales!
That story teaches us that being passionate about your business or start up is absolutely essential in making it big.
Forbes magazine says that “Almost two-thirds of the world’s 946 billionaires made their fortunes from scratch, relying on grit and determination, and not good genes” on their website. This means that a second must for entrepreneurs who want to reach their goals is gold old fashioned bootstrapping.
A story about one of my own city’s richest men, Sheldon Adelson, shows the importance of never giving up and bootstrapping your business to the teeth in the early days. Adelson, a high school drop out and son of a cab driver had a hard time for most of his life. He moonlighted as a mortgage broker and financial consultant but didn’t find much luck until he gathered enough capital to start investing in hotels and made it really, really big. His secrets? He absolutely refused to quit trying … he’s worth about 3.4 billion dollars now.
So worst case scenario…
You are sitting here reading this post in your parent’s basement, you have zero in the bank and no job. Well… the people in the above stories had it worse, they were deeply in debt. So get your butt up and get going. Here are some suggestions on how to do it:
- Leave the house. Yes take your computer, or take a pen and paper to a coffee shop & brainstorm. Getting out of the house means no distractions of family, TV or pets. It also helps you set aside ‘work time’ for your business from ‘home time’. I get out of the house almost twice a day and go to a coffee shop and work, I have my morning coffee shop & my evening one which is a 24/7 cafe.
- List your skills. Pick 5 of your best skills and go to I will teach you to be rich (Dot) com read of his suggestions on freelancing and follow them. Ramit Sethi is a genius at finding ways to make money even if you are totally broke & down on your luck, he can help.
- Focus on your goals. Regardless how big or small they are write them down and read them EVERY single day. If your goal is, say to get a Cadillac Escalade then focus on that, if it is making $10,000 a month then focus on that… then grow your goals, if your main goal is to make $5 million in 5 years then focus & go for that! Never, ever give up on those goals and please don’t sell yourself short. Think of what you really want and go for it, no matter the odds… if you stick to it you will get it.
“Where there is a will, there is a way. If there is a chance in a million that you can do something, anything, to keep what you want from ending, do it. Pry the door open or, if need be, wedge your foot in that door and keep it open.” -Pauline Kael
Think this over & please list 3 things you think you could pursue to go from where you are now to $10,000 a month. Its not a huge goal, but its big enough to make a major difference in the way you live your life. Come on people, ALL of you, 3 things that you could possibly follow… ideas or products… to get there!
